Frequently asked questions

Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook’s odds are inaccurate, they can express that view by trading on Polymarket, potentially driving the prediction market price away from the sportsbook line. This difference can highlight areas where the crowd disagrees with professional oddsmakers, or where new information hasn't yet been fully incorporated into sportsbook pricing.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price fluctuates based on supply and demand; increased buying pressure raises the price, indicating growing confidence in that outcome, while selling pressure lowers it. This dynamic pricing allows the market to quickly incorporate new information and adjust probabilities in real-time.
