Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets aim to represent the true probability of an outcome as determined by traders. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on expert analysis, this market allows for continuous adjustment based on a wider range of information and collective intelligence. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions, access to information, and risk appetite among participants.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is influenced by news, analysis, and any information that might affect the perceived chances of either fighter winning the match.
