Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and profit margins, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant discrepancy exists between this market and sportsbook odds, it could indicate that traders possess information not yet fully incorporated by sportsbooks, or simply a different assessment of the players’ chances. It's important to consider both when forming your own opinion.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price dynamically adjusts based on supply and demand, providing a real-time assessment of expectations for the Maanshan tennis match.
