Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from sportsbook odds which may be influenced by factors like house bias or initial public perception. Sportsbooks typically set initial lines to balance betting action, while this market allows traders to freely adjust probabilities based on new information and analysis. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. Comparing these odds can reveal where the crowd believes there’s value, or where sportsbooks might be mispricing the likelihood of an outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds closely align with the perceived likelihood of each player winning the match, as determined by the traders themselves.
