Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on their own models and need to account for profit margins, while this market is driven purely by traders’ beliefs about the likely outcome. If prediction market odds significantly diverge from sportsbook odds, it might suggest the crowd believes the sportsbook has mispriced the event, or that new information hasn't fully been incorporated into the sportsbook's lines. It’s a valuable comparison point for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. As more shares are bought for one outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the perceived chance of that outcome occurring. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to reflect the latest information and collective intelligence of the traders.
