Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, and can sometimes differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. Generally, if prediction market odds significantly diverge from sportsbook odds, it might suggest that the market participants have access to information or insights not fully incorporated into the sportsbook's pricing. It’s important to compare and contrast to form your own informed opinion.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. As more shares are purchased for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. Conversely, selling shares decreases the price. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly represents the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated based on the latest information and sentiment.
