Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market allows anyone to trade based on their own insights. If a significant discrepancy emerges between prediction market prices and sportsbook lines, arbitrage opportunities may arise for informed traders. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities of an outcome, and neither is guaranteed to be perfectly accurate. It’s common to see convergence over time as new information becomes available.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment. The market’s depth and liquidity, currently at a volume of $18, influence how efficiently prices respond to new information. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market remains responsive to evolving expectations.
