Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different kind of wisdom than those found at sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market relies on the collective intelligence of traders. Often, prediction markets are more accurate than traditional polls or analyst predictions, as they incentivize participants to research and express their true beliefs. However, sportsbook odds can still be a useful data point when considering the potential outcome of the Mirarchi vs Terry match, and differences between the two can highlight interesting discrepancies in perceived probabilities.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. As more shares are purchased for a specific outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, allowing traders to express their views and profit if their predictions are accurate. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date information and collective wisdom of the participants.
