Frequently asked questions

Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, representing their profit margin. This market, being driven by user predictions, can sometimes reflect a more accurate assessment of probabilities, especially when there's strong disagreement with sportsbook lines. However, sportsbooks have professional analysts and sophisticated models, so discrepancies can also arise from differing information or interpretations. It’s useful to compare both to form a well-rounded view.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa.
