Often, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant discrepancy exists between prediction market probabilities and sportsbook odds, it could indicate that the crowd believes the sportsbook is mispricing the event. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities of an outcome, and neither is guaranteed to be accurate.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Heraklion tennis match. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, the price of those shares increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price movements are driven by supply and demand, with traders adjusting their positions based on new information and their own analysis. This dynamic pricing allows the market to quickly incorporate new data and reflect the collective intelligence of the participants.
