Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market is driven purely by traders’ willingness to buy or sell based on their individual assessments. It's common to see prediction markets move more efficiently as new information becomes available, as traders continuously update their beliefs. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information access or varying levels of expertise among participants in each venue. Examining these differences can be insightful for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous double auction, meaning traders can buy 'yes' shares if they believe the outcome will occur, or sell 'no' shares if they believe it won't. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand, reflecting the collective probability assigned to the event by all traders. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price represents the market's estimate of the likelihood of a particular outcome. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the price will adjust accordingly, providing a real-time assessment of expectations for the Belozertsev vs Lopatic match.
