Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, which can differ from sportsbook odds influenced by house biases or initial public perception. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the probability of a specific outcome. If a significant discrepancy exists between this market and sportsbook odds, it may indicate that traders possess information or insights not yet fully incorporated into the sportsbook’s pricing. However, it's important to remember that both represent probabilities, not guarantees.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, reflecting growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand from traders on Polymarket, and there are no external factors influencing the price discovery process.
