Typically, prediction market odds reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, often differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook has mispriced an outcome, they can create arbitrage opportunities, causing the prediction market odds to diverge. It’s common to see differences, especially as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts regarding the players in this match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. As more shares are purchased for a specific player, the price of those shares increases, reflecting a higher implied probability of that player winning. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market price is determined by the forces of supply and demand; if many traders believe Hugo Car will win, the price of shares representing his victory will rise, and vice versa for Ioannis Xilas. This dynamic pricing allows the market to quickly incorporate new information.
