Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from sportsbook odds which may be influenced by factors like house bias or initial public perception. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own analysis and risk management, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. If there's a significant discrepancy, it could indicate that the crowd believes the sportsbook is mispricing the event. It’s valuable to compare both to form a well-rounded view of the likely result.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people trade, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event. Higher volume generally indicates greater confidence in the price reflecting the true probability, while lower volume might suggest more uncertainty or a lack of information.
