Generally, prediction market odds tend to be more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds, as they reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders. However, sportsbook odds often lead the market initially, particularly before significant trading volume occurs. It's common to see this market and sportsbook odds converge as the event approaches and more information becomes available. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions, biases, or varying levels of information available to each group. Comparing these odds can provide valuable insights into public perception and potential value bets.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to reflect the collective forecast. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price indicates what the market believes is the likelihood of a particular player winning the Heraklion tennis match, and this price fluctuates based on supply and demand for shares in that outcome.
