Prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of informed bettors believe a sportsbook has mispriced an outcome, the prediction market may move in the opposite direction. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before major events or when new information emerges, as this market can incorporate information more rapidly than traditional sources.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in an outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice-versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price reflects the collective intelligence of the traders on Polymarket, and can fluctuate based on news, analysis, and overall sentiment surrounding the Watane vs Dakhane match.
