Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the players’ chances. If you find a significant difference between the odds on Polymarket and those offered by sportsbooks, it might indicate an opportunity for value betting, assuming your analysis supports that view.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s efficiency relies on informed traders and active participation, leading to odds that can be quite different from initial expectations or sportsbook lines. The current price indicates what the crowd believes is the likelihood of a specific player winning.
