Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their risk and ensure profit, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs about the outcome. If a significant number of informed bettors believe a sportsbook’s odds are inaccurate, this market may show a different probability for the same event. It’s common to see prediction markets move more efficiently as new information becomes available, potentially offering a more accurate forecast than traditional odds.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price fluctuates based on supply and demand; if more people buy shares representing a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of all participants.
