Prediction market odds often reflect a different kind of wisdom than sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market represents the collective forecast of informed traders. If a significant difference emerges between the implied probability on Polymarket and sportsbook lines, it could indicate disagreement about the true likelihood of an outcome. It's common to see prediction markets move independently of sportsbook odds, especially as new information becomes available or as traders identify perceived mispricings.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This means the price can fluctuate significantly based on new information, shifts in sentiment, or simply increased trading activity. The current price reflects the aggregated predictions of all traders on Polymarket.
