Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, but may also incorporate a margin for profit. This market, driven by individual traders on Polymarket, can react more quickly to new information or changing sentiment. It's common to see discrepancies, especially as the event approaches, as prediction markets often offer a more accurate forecast of the final result than traditional betting venues.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe an outcome is likely, the higher the share price will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated based on the latest information and collective intelligence.
