Generally, prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set initial odds based on their own analysis, while this market's probabilities are driven by the collective predictions of traders. It’s common to see discrepancies emerge, especially as new information surfaces or public sentiment shifts. These differences can sometimes present opportunities for arbitrage, though it's important to consider transaction fees and potential slippage when comparing odds across different sources.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined purely by supply and demand, with traders adjusting their positions based on their own analysis and information. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the aggregated beliefs of all participants.
