Prediction market odds often reflect a different kind of wisdom than sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks typically set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market represents the collective intelligence of traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamics of each market. If there's a significant difference, it might indicate that prediction market traders believe they have an edge or possess information not fully priced into the sportsbook lines.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price fluctuates based on supply and demand, driven by new information and changing opinions. Higher demand for shares in a particular outcome will drive up its price, indicating increased confidence in that outcome.
