Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set initial lines based on their own analysis, while this market's odds are driven by the collective predictions of many individuals. Often, you'll find that prediction markets are more accurate than sportsbook lines, especially as the event approaches and more information becomes available. However, sportsbooks may offer different types of bets not available in this market, and vice versa. It's useful to compare both to form a well-rounded view.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more people trade, the price adjusts to reflect the aggregated sentiment. Higher demand for shares in a particular outcome will drive up its price, while increased selling pressure will lower it. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date predictions of the crowd.
