Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets aim to represent the true probability of an event occurring as assessed by traders. This can lead to discrepancies, with this market potentially offering different probabilities than those found at sportsbooks. It's common to see prediction markets react quickly to new information and potentially outperform sportsbook odds in terms of accuracy, but this isn't always the case.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares purchased for a particular outcome, the higher its price rises, and vice-versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust based on the collective wisdom of traders, providing a forward-looking assessment of the fight's potential result.
