Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market allows traders to freely express their beliefs, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities. Discrepancies can arise due to differing levels of information, biases, or simply variations in opinion. It’s common to see this market adjust rapidly to new information, potentially exceeding the speed of sportsbook adjustments.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price fluctuates based on supply and demand, meaning that if more people believe Todoran will win, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase, and vice versa. This creates a dynamic pricing system driven by trader sentiment.
