Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. Discrepancies can arise from differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the competitors’ strengths. If significant differences exist, it may indicate an opportunity for arbitrage, where traders can profit by exploiting the price difference between the two venues.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of each share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated based on the latest information and sentiment.
