Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, and can sometimes differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their odds based on their own models and risk management, while this market relies on the aggregated predictions of individuals. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. These differences can present opportunities for arbitrage, where traders attempt to profit from the price variations between the two types of markets.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market price fluctuates based on supply and demand; if more people believe Kumstat will win, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the latest information and collective intelligence.
