Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of informed bettors believe a sportsbook line is inaccurate, they can drive the odds on Polymarket in a different direction. It’s common to see prediction markets more accurately reflect true probabilities as the event approaches, especially when substantial volume is traded.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust, reflecting the collective assessment of the market participants.
