Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from those offered by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance their risk and incorporate a profit margin, while this market is driven purely by traders’ beliefs about the outcome. If a significant number of people believe a particular outcome is more likely than sportsbooks suggest, the odds on Polymarket will adjust accordingly. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamic nature of the prediction market compared to the more static nature of sportsbook lines.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, reflecting a growing consensus. Conversely, increased selling pressure drives the price down. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of its participants regarding the Sonego vs Kouame match.
