Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set initial lines based on their own models and risk assessment, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs about the outcome. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts. Comparing the implied probabilities from both sources can be a valuable exercise for informed decision-making, but it's important to remember they represent different approaches to forecasting the final result.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in each possible exact score. The price of each share directly reflects the probability of that outcome, as determined by supply and demand. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice-versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing allows the market to quickly incorporate new information and adjust probabilities in real-time, creating a constantly evolving forecast for the LA Galaxy vs. San Diego FC match.
