Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on expert analysis and incorporate a margin for profit, while this market allows traders to express their own beliefs, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities. If a significant discrepancy exists, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by betting on both the prediction market and a sportsbook. However, it’s important to remember that both sources have their own strengths and weaknesses in predicting event outcomes.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust to reflect the collective assessment of the likelihood of Longford Town or UCD scoring first. The market’s price movements are driven by supply and demand for these shares, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the event’s potential outcomes.

This market resolves around Oct 24, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will be based on which team scores the first goal in the Longford Town FC vs. University College Dublin match. Any goals scored during regular play, including stoppage time, will be considered. The outcome will be determined by official match data and verified against credible public sources, ensuring a fair and accurate resolution process for all participants in this market.

Several factors could influence trading activity in this market. Late-breaking news regarding player injuries or suspensions for either Longford Town or UCD could significantly shift the odds. Changes in team form, such as recent wins or losses, or tactical adjustments announced by the managers could also impact trader sentiment. Even weather conditions on match day, particularly if they favor one team’s playing style, might cause movement. Unexpected announcements about key player availability or changes in the starting lineups are also likely to trigger shifts in this market.
