Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market’s odds are determined by supply and demand among individuals wagering on the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply variations in how each group interprets the available data. Comparing the two can reveal where the crowd diverges from expert opinion regarding who will score first in the first half.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular team, the price increases, reflecting growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s efficiency is driven by the incentive for traders to accurately predict the event, as profitable trades depend on correct assessments. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the latest information and sentiment.

This market resolves around Oct 25, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, resolution will depend on identifying which team, Liverpool or Brighton, scores the first goal during the first half of the match. The official match records will serve as the basis for determining the winning outcome. The platform will verify the result against trusted sports data sources to ensure accuracy and transparency.

Several factors could influence trading activity in this market. Late-breaking news regarding player injuries or suspensions for either Liverpool or Brighton would likely cause significant shifts in the odds. Changes in team formations or tactical approaches announced before the match could also impact trader sentiment. Even weather conditions on match day, such as heavy rain or strong winds, might be considered by traders when assessing the likelihood of each team scoring first. Unexpected pre-match analysis from respected football commentators could also move the market.
