Prediction market odds, like those found on Polymarket and Predict, often differ from traditional sportsbook odds due to the underlying mechanisms. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while prediction markets are driven by the wisdom of the crowd. This market reflects what traders believe the probability of each outcome is, based on their analysis and information. As a result, prediction markets can sometimes offer more accurate probabilities, especially when there's significant public information available. However, sportsbooks may react faster to breaking news, leading to temporary discrepancies.
Polymarket and Predict can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Prices on Polymarket and Predict can diverge due to variations in user base, trading volume, and market-specific rules. Polymarket may attract a different demographic of traders with unique insights, while Predict might have different liquidity levels influencing price discovery. Furthermore, the way each platform handles fees or allows for order types can also contribute to price discrepancies. Even with the same underlying event, these factors create distinct market dynamics, resulting in differing probabilities for the LIU vs. Seton Hall game.
