Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities as new information emerges. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions, biases, or the influence of large bettors. Comparing this market to sportsbook lines can reveal where the crowd disagrees with professional oddsmakers and potentially identify value opportunities.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the prices adjust to reflect the collective assessment of the event's potential results. The market’s price is driven by supply and demand, with higher demand increasing the price and vice versa.
