Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and public perception, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to be accurate. If a significant difference exists between the two, it could indicate that prediction market traders have information or insights not fully incorporated into sportsbook odds. It's important to remember that both represent probabilities, but are derived from different sources and methodologies.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe a particular outcome is likely, the higher the price of its corresponding shares will rise, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date collective intelligence.
