Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of forecasters, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds which may be influenced by factors like house bias or public perception. Sportsbooks set initial lines to balance betting action, while this market allows traders to freely adjust probabilities based on their own analysis and information. It's common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when new information emerges, as the market incorporates a wider range of perspectives than a typical sportsbook.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now.
