Frequently asked questions

Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets allow traders to directly assess probabilities. This can lead to discrepancies, with this market potentially offering odds that are more favorable or less favorable than those found at sportsbooks, depending on the collective wisdom of the crowd. It's common to see prediction markets quickly adjust to new information and potentially outperform sportsbook odds in terms of accuracy, though that isn't always the case.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular team, the price increases, reflecting a higher perceived chance of them scoring first. Conversely, selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic process ensures that the market price efficiently reflects the collective intelligence of the participants, creating a probabilistic forecast for the first goalscorer in the first half.

This market resolves around Oct 17, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Specifically, the outcome will be determined by which team – Lille OSC or Stade Brestois 29 – scores the first goal during the first half of the match. The official match records will serve as the basis for verifying the result. It’s important to note that if no goal is scored in the first half, the market will resolve as 'No Goal Scored' and shares will be settled accordingly.

Several factors could influence trading activity and shift the odds in this market. Late-breaking news regarding key player injuries or suspensions for either Lille OSC or Stade Brestois 29 would likely have a significant impact. Changes in team formations or tactical approaches announced before the match could also move the market. Even weather conditions on match day, such as heavy rain or strong winds, could affect the perceived likelihood of a quick goal. Finally, any significant pre-match analysis from reputable sports commentators or analysts could sway trader sentiment and alter the price of shares.
