Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks typically incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, representing their profit margin. This market, driven by the wisdom of the crowd on Polymarket, aims to reflect the true probability of an outcome, though discrepancies can still arise due to differing information or risk assessments. It’s common to find that prediction markets are more efficient at incorporating new information quickly, potentially leading to odds that diverge from sportsbook offerings.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome in the Lille vs. Lens second half. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to represent the collective prediction. The market’s efficiency depends on active trading and the availability of relevant information, influencing how quickly the price responds to new developments.
