Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, which can sometimes differ from sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and need to account for profit margins, while this market is driven purely by participants' beliefs about the probability of each exact score. It's common to see discrepancies, especially when there's strong public sentiment or information not fully captured by traditional sportsbooks. Comparing these odds can provide valuable insights into where the 'crowd' believes the true probability lies.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores. The price of each share reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts to reflect the changing beliefs of the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market depth and trading volume influence how quickly prices react to new information, and the overall price discovery process is transparent and publicly visible on the platform.
