Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market aggregates the views of many individual traders. It's common to see discrepancies between the two, particularly when there's significant public interest or disagreement about the likely outcome. These differences can arise from varying levels of information, biases, or simply differing interpretations of the available data. Examining both can provide a more comprehensive view of the event’s potential results.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where participants buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence. The market’s price is determined entirely by supply and demand, with traders adjusting their positions based on new information and their own analysis. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date predictions of the crowd.
