These odds often reflect information and perspectives differing from those incorporated into traditional sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks typically set odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, while prediction markets benefit from the wisdom of the crowd. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions, access to unique information, or simply variations in market participants. It’s often valuable to compare both to gain a comprehensive understanding.
Prices for this market on Polymarket and Kalshi can diverge for several reasons. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each platform attracts a different user base with varying levels of expertise and access to information about college basketball. Trading volume also plays a role; higher volume on one platform can lead to more efficient price discovery. Furthermore, the specific rules and fee structures of each platform can influence trading behavior and, consequently, the resulting odds. These factors contribute to the observed differences in probabilities for the Lehigh vs. UCLA game.
