Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, ensuring a profit margin, while prediction markets allow traders to directly assess probabilities. This can lead to differences in implied probabilities, particularly when there's strong public sentiment or information asymmetry. If sportsbook odds heavily favor one competitor, this market might show a more nuanced view if traders believe the other competitor has a higher chance of winning. Examining both can provide a more comprehensive understanding of the event's potential outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome.
