Often, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective that can differ from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks may set opening odds based on power rankings and expert analysis, while this market incorporates the collective insights of many traders. As more information becomes available – such as injury reports or lineup changes – both prediction market prices and sportsbook odds will adjust. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially early in the betting cycle, as the market digests new information and refines its assessment of the game's likely outcome.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price converges towards what the crowd believes is the true probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is driven entirely by supply and demand; if more people believe the Knicks will win, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase, and vice versa.
This market resolves around Oct 5, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will be based on the official result of the Knicks-76ers game. The platform will verify the final score against trusted sports data sources to determine the winning outcome. Traders holding shares in the winning outcome will be entitled to a payout, while those holding shares in the losing outcome will not. The exact timing of the payout may depend on the speed of official result confirmation.
Several factors could significantly impact this market. Key player injuries to either the Knicks or the 76ers would likely cause substantial price movement. Unexpected lineup changes, coaching decisions, or even significant news regarding team morale could also influence trading activity. Major statistical performances in preceding games, or even broader NBA news impacting team dynamics, could also shift the perceived probabilities. Any developments that alter the perceived competitive balance between the two teams have the potential to move this market considerably before Oct 5, 2026.
