Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows traders to express their own independent assessments. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook’s odds are inaccurate, they can drive the price on Polymarket in a different direction. This can lead to prediction market odds being more accurate, especially closer to the event, as more information becomes available and more people participate. It’s a fascinating comparison of different forecasting approaches.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores in the Kidderminster vs Worthing match. As more shares are bought for a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability.
