Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different set of information and incentives than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while prediction markets aim to represent the true probability of an event occurring as assessed by traders. This can lead to differences in implied probabilities. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, this market allows for a more dynamic and potentially more accurate assessment as new information emerges and traders adjust their positions. It's important to compare the implied probabilities to see where the discrepancies lie.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts accordingly, creating a dynamic and real-time assessment of the event's likelihood. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is driven solely by supply and demand from traders on Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or predetermined values.
