Prediction market odds often reflect the collective intelligence of a diverse group of bettors, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance their risk and ensure profit, while this market is driven purely by participants’ beliefs about the outcome. It’s common to see differences emerge, especially when there's significant public interest or disagreement about the likely winner. Comparing the odds can reveal where the crowd sees value that sportsbooks might be overlooking, or vice versa.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more people buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and the probability implied by the price rises accordingly.
