Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and need to account for profit margins, while this market is driven purely by traders’ beliefs. If a significant number of people believe a sportsbook has mispriced an outcome, they can express that view by trading on Kalshi, potentially causing the odds to diverge. However, it’s also common to see convergence as both markets react to new information and analysis leading up to the event.
