Currently, prediction market odds often reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. While sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, analytical approaches, or simply variations in public sentiment. If sportsbooks heavily favor one team, but traders in this market believe the contest is closer, the odds will diverge. Observing these differences can be insightful for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. As more shares are traded for a particular outcome, its price increases, indicating growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring.
