Prediction market odds, like those found on Polymarket and Predict, often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set odds based on models and proprietary information, while this market is driven by individuals betting with their own capital. This can lead to discrepancies, especially when public sentiment diverges from expert opinion. Generally, prediction markets tend to be more accurate than sportsbook odds, particularly when there is significant trading volume—currently at $0 for this market—but it’s not always the case, and both can be valuable sources of information.
Polymarket and Predict can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Prices on Polymarket and Predict for the Sint-Truidense vs. Brann first-to-score market can differ due to several factors. Each platform has its own user base, trading dynamics, and fee structures, which influence price discovery. Different information available to traders on each platform, or varying interpretations of the same information, can also contribute to price discrepancies. Finally, the specific mechanisms for trading and order execution on each platform can create temporary imbalances.
