Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially differing from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and the goal of balancing action on both sides, while this market is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when public sentiment strongly favors one outcome. Examining these differences can reveal insights into where the crowd believes sportsbooks might be mispricing the probability of events in the Liiga hockey matchup.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective assessment of the event’s likelihood. The market’s efficiency depends on active participation and informed trading from users.
